Frequently Asked Questions

Expert Guidance for Your Legal Journey

What is the difference between a lawyer and a Licensed Paralegal in Ontario?

In Ontario, a licensed paralegal is authorized by the Law Society of Ontario to provide legal services in specific areas, including the Landlord and Tenant Board, Small Claims Court (up to $50,000), and Traffic Tickets. For these specialized matters, a paralegal offers the same high-level advocacy as a lawyer but often at a more cost-effective and accessible rate for small businesses and individuals.

How long does the LTB or Small Claims process typically take?

Due to current backlogs in the Ontario court system, timelines can vary. However, the biggest "friction" and delay often come from incorrect paperwork. By hiring J & N Paralegal Services, you ensure your filings are 100% accurate the first time, preventing your case from being dismissed or delayed due to procedural errors. We handle the follow-ups so you can focus on your business.

Do I need to attend the hearing if I hire a paralegal?

In many cases, your licensed paralegal can appear on your behalf, saving you from taking a full day off work or closing your business to attend court. We provide professional representation in Barrie and across Simcoe County, ensuring your evidence is presented clearly and your rights are protected, whether or not you are physically in the room. Please note that there are situations where your testimony will be required, however, J&N Paralegal Services will work with you to fully prepare you for the hearing.
